I received word this past week that the city of St. Louis will try to find a legislator that will file a bill to gain local control of the St. Louis City FF's retirement system from the State. We had anticipated that sooner rather than later the city would come after their pensions.

Friends,As expected, the Senate committees voted out all the anti-Firefighter and Labor bills this week. It is only fair that I explain to you all that the Senate has a history of allowing most bills to get to the Floor for debate. This practice is good and bad at times but most view it as fair.

Friends,Last Tuesday the Senate heard both paycheck deception bills, the bills changing the prevailing wage, and Right-to-work. Myself, DVP Mark Woolbright and MSCFF President Tony Kelly were at the committee hearing prepared to testify against the Paycheck bills that affect they way our Locals collect dues from our members.

Friends,The first week of session has concluded and I can tell you that it will not be a friendly session for Labor. Already there has been two Paycheck Deception bills filed in the Senate by Jason Crowell (SB435) and Dan Brown (SB553), and three Right-to-work bills filed by Rob Mayer (SB438) Jason Crowell (SB514) and Chuck Purgasson( SB547).
