It is with great sadness to report out on the Occupational Line of Duty Death of Brother Craig Shormas of the Monarch Fire Protection District and the Professional Fire Fighters of Eastern Missouri, Local 2665.  Brother Shormas passed away quietly from his battle with cancer yesterday morning with his wife and children by his side.

On behalf of the 2nd District our thoughts and prayers are with Brother Shormas, his family, the Monarch Fire Protection District and PFEM Local 2665. Brother Shormas will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 1600-2000 on Sunday April 26th, 2020 and from 0800-1100 on Monday April 27th, 2020 at Kutis Funeral Home, 10151 Gravois Rd., Afton, MO 63123.

Casket vigil honors will be afforded in limited scope due to current regulations and all vigil positions are covered. In accordance with St. Louis County orders, a limit of 10 individuals may be inside the visitation at a time. We are asking that all firefighters wishing to pay respects Engineer Shormas give preference to family and close friends prior to requesting entrance.

In lieu of a uniformed member walkthrough, a procession of fire apparatus will be staged at the Afton Ice Rink 10300 Gravois Road, St. Louis, MO 63123 on April 27th, 2020. At approximately 2000, all staged apparatus will drive in procession from the Afton Ice Rink past Kutis Funeral Home in view of the Shormas family. Please contact the Apparatus Staging Manager if you plan to participate.

At 1100 on April 27th, 2020 a procession of fire apparatus will lead Engineer Shormas and family from Kutis Funeral Home past St. Paul Cemetery at 7600 South Rock Hill Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63123 where he will receive full honors. All honor guard duties have been arranged. All outside agency apparatus will continue past the cemetery and return to service, as all burial services will be private. All agencies wishing to participate in the procession should contact the Apparatus Staging Manager ahead of time and plan to stage at The Afton Ice Rink prior no later than 1015 on April 27th, 2020.

A celebration of life ceremony will be arranged by Monarch Fire Protection District in conjunction with Local 2665 in coming months that will afford all firefighters an opportunity to honor Engineer Shormas.
